Update: B-day Week

I had a wonderful birthday week- the little things I did for myself really made for a wonderful week of celebrating. Not to mention the time I got to spend with family and friends (and the fabulous gifts they gave me!!!)

Update: Wednesday I bought a 20 oz Vanilla Latte (not skinny) and left work early. Thursday- Thanksgiving! I spent to day surrounded by my family. The food and company were both wonderful! Friday my husband and I rode our bikes to the LSU game-- GEAUX TIGERS!!! We snuck in a flask of whiskey, had some peanuts and tiger dogs- had great seats and enjoyed the game. Saturday- Nathan and I did our Saturday errands- best part was we finally bought curtains for our bedroom. We got black out curtains too- its pretty fabulous! And finally Sunday- the actual birthday- I had an amazing brunch at Bistro Byronz with friends and family. I am a very lucky girl!

PS- I went over my birthday budget in the first day- I bought the Anthropologie sweater featured in several of my previous blogs!!!! And its just as cozy and wonderful as it looks.

Glam Tip: Flaky Lips

http://www.flickr.com/photos/hungama/131867139/
Winter is coming and there is nothing I hate more than chapped flaky lips. I saw this on Olivia Palermo's Blog. Its a great tip for those wintery lips. So pucker up that pout for some holiday smooches ...

 - By Teresa Greenfeld - With winter fast approaching, the combination of freezing temperatures outside and aggressive radiators inside can reek havoc on your lips.  To combat a flaky pout, apply a little Visine on a cotton ball and swipe.  Follow up with a moisturizing lip balm and pucker up!
One of our favorite products is from Elizabeth Grant’s The Socializer and includes a powerful duo of exfoliation and moisturizing – check out The Socializer – Can you keep a secret? Lip Exfoliator! ( which I will be purchasing as my Tuesday-something-special-for-myself for birthday week!)

Hello Monday- Its Birthday Week!

Birthday Week

On sunday I will be 30, so I have declared this week to be my birthday week. I've decided that I will do something special for myself everyday this week. Today I slept in late (but not too late- still managed to get to work on time :) ). I threw on all my new clothes. I bought this adorable skirt from the Banana Republic outlet this weekend. It looks similar to the one above except its a little bit of a softer yellow with a hint of plaid to it. I also purchased a blue silk blouse- also similar to the one above except it has 3/4 sleeves and its a lighter blue. But the best part of my outfit is the new string of pearls my wonderful husband gave me for my birthday. He surprised me with them on saturday. I was getting dressed for a wedding when he surprised me with a Barker's box!!! I immediately tore into the box to find a beautiful string of 20 inch 10 1/2 mm fresh water pearls- they are lovely! I have the most wonderful husband!!!

Cozy

Cozy

The weather down here has been a little schizo the past month. It's been down into the 30's then  back up to the 80's- so confusing for my wardrobe. This morning it was pretty chilly- about 36 when I woke up. It definitely put me in the mood for some cozy winter sweaters! I'm totally in love with the Knitted Rabbit Fur sweater by Joseph. If only I had $2000 to spend on a sweater! That sweater is so amazing I had to pair it with these killer leather pants. Normally, I would not wear leather pants but you can't wear just any pair of jeans with this sweater! And again, I'm featuring my favorite of the season- the cowl neck poncho from Anthropologie.
Apparently, I am really into neutrals this winter. I think neutrals are always a good staple for your wardrobe. They are easy to wear, very versatile and, usually, timeless. A whole new look can be created by changing accessories- jewelry, bags, shoes etc. I can't wait to get home this evening, throw on a big comfy, cozy sweater and sip some wine by the fire!

The Sock Bun

I was perusing pinterest and I came across the sock bun- great curls with no heat- I was skeptical. So I decided to give it a try. I googled more about it and found the best ways to do it.

This is what your sock bun should look like before you go to bed. And mine did. I actually did a pretty good sock bun except I put mine a little higher on my head so that it would be more comfortable for me to sleep.

This is about what your hair is suppose to look like the next morning when you take your sock bun out. Mine DID NOT!  It looked more like this....

Granted my hair does take to curl pretty well but it was seriously this big all over my head. My husband took one look at me and just busted out laughing. So the sock bun was not so successful. But I'm going to try again! Next time I will take pictures and post. A few things I am going to change- not dampen my hair so much, I am only going to keep it in for a couple of hours instead of sleeping in it and I'm not going to try it on a week night. It was a nightmare trying to fix that mess before I went to work!!!

Nola bound to see my bestie

Nola bound to see my bestie

I can't wait for tomorrow!!! I have the day off- I'm going to sleep late, finally go get my new jeans tailored (so I can stop wearing them with duct tape as my hem) and visit my husband at work!!! Then I'm off to Nola to catch up with my Kate for the night. I can't wait- its been too long and we have a lot of catching up to do. We are going to start off the night at my favorite restuarant- Le Crepe Nanou- Moules-frites and some delicious wine here I come! Then maybe onto some cocktails somewhere around Prytania or maybe even somewhere closer to Kate's like Oak. Then its up early for some garage and estate sales! I'm going to try to pack light- keep it to one pair of shoes- (I love my boots!) and one pair of pants. I think I can do it!!! My favorite piece above is the super comfy and cozy sweater from anthropologie!

LBD- day to night

Last night I was having dinner at my mom's house (which was delish! Thanks mom!) when she challenged me to help her style her new little black dress. Her dress is a little different from the one below- it has short sleeves but other than that they are very similar. Its a sweater dress with a cowl neck. I really love both looks that I have created for her and I believe they are both "age appropriate" but still chic and sassy.  I absolutely adore the compass necklace- I wish I had one!

Loving my work outfit today

Loving my work outfit today

I was inspired by the new logo I created last night and its finally cold enough to wear my yellow wool blazer. Its a Paul and Joe for Target that I purchased several years ago but have just recently decided I'm totally in love with it. The sweater I'm wearing was an amazing find at the Banana Republic factory store- looks similar to the one above but the stripes are smaller and it has zippers on the shoulders- details that I love. Oh and the stipes are navy. I've been paring Navy and black this fall- something I never did before- and I love it. I only wish my shoes were Jimmy Choo! Instead they are from Victoria's Secret- but honestly look exactly like the ones above. My bag is Coach and looks similar to the above. I bought it at the Coach store in San Juan. I heart my earrings too- Thanks MOM!!! She purchased them in Colorado. They are real leaves dipped in gold. I had been dying for some leaf earrings for years and she finally found some amazing ones!
